As you may have heard recently and wondered, what is that loud siren?!!
After hurricane Helene, multiple community members came to the department and inquired about the possibility of a severe weather/ natural disaster siren to warn the community and surrounding areas. With gracious donations, we were able to install one!!
This post serves as notification and explanation of the operation of the siren!!
1. The siren that you have heard recently is one of two functions of the siren. This function serves as notification to the community, as well as members of the department that a fire related incident, such as, Structure Fire, Brush Fire, MVC, etc. has been dispatched and to notify that members and fire apparatus will be responding to the call!!
2. The severe weather/ natural disaster tone, while not fully operational yet, will serve as notification and warning device to the community of severe weather and natural disasters.
3. With the two different functions, they have two different tones.
The most notable being the emergency response tone, will sound 3 times during the hours of 6AM-9PM.
The Severe weather tone, will sound for a constant 3 minute period, notifying the public of weather and natural disasters. Again, not fully functional yet, we will notify everyone with a post regarding when it is fully operational!!
